Vrijhof Culture

Vrijhof Culture is the culture department of the UT. Next to supporting our associations, they also offer various courses, workshops, exhibitions and performances outside of that. Not only in the Vrijhof but also in other buildings and sometimes even outside: the Campus as a stage! They also offers sound studios, an audio room with good acoustics, and two stage-halls used for concerts and theatre performances. Culture & Events’ staff can advise you about everything concerning culture and events, including the fine art of theatrical technique.

Performances

Vrijhof Culture offers professional cultural performances every other week, ranging in genre from dance, music and theatre to stand up comedy and cinematic experiences. All performances can be found in the quartile calendar, our published program, or on the website of the Vrijhof.

Courses

Vrijhof Culture offers you very interesting and diverse cultural courses at a very attractive price, thanks to the Student Union and OPUT. These courses usually take 8 weeks and new courses start at the beginning of each quartile. The subjects are very diverse, including songwriting, welding, woodworking and photography. Also courses like cooking or oriental dance are offered from time to time. Most courses are in English, on a beginner level and accessible for everyone with a Union- or CampusCard.

All courses have been realized in cooperation with Kaliber Kunstenschool, Volksuniversiteit Enschede, Shu Training and AKI/ArtEZ. To find the current offer of courses, visit the website of the Vrijhof.

Exhibitions

Each month, Vrijhof Culture presents new exhibitions with the aim of offering the widest possible range of art. Paintings, sculptures, graphics, photographs, media art and installations – all of these are on display. The Vrijhof has two exhibition locations, where you can always find different kinds of art. The big exposition room can be found behind the stairs towards the library, on the ground floor. The small exposition room is in the hallway between the theatercafĂ© and the library, on the ground floor.

The starting point is to offer young artists from the region the opportunity to exhibit their work. From time to time, students at the University of Twente can also showcase their work. The exhibitions are not only on the ground floor of the Vrijhof, but also regularly in other buildings, such as the Spiegel.

Studios

Do you want to practice playing your instrument or looking for a place to rehearse with your band? The Vrijhof has a number of different studios, both for individual use or use in small groups.

With your UnionCard/CampusCard you can use the studios in the Vrijhof for free. Whether you play the drums, piano, saxophone, trumpet or any other instrument, you are very welcome to rehearse in one of the music studios! Furthermore, there is also a ballet studio where you can rehearse your dances.

There is also the possibility to rehearse with your band in one of our pop studios on a weekly basis. For more information contact Vrijhof Culture.
